Thanks for noticing The Project 100. I am the Editor and Publisher. Agree with all you say...of the 100 authors, there are well known marketers, young up and comers and old world marketers who are moving quickly into the social media space. My only fear, is that over time, people will put walls up and access to folks who in the real world may not have opportunities to meet will again become limited.

Great post. I got wind of the TAG/Island deal some weeks ago. A few years ago I tried to take a similar idea to Leo Burnett to find out if any of their brands would be interested in using urban music to market their products. They were hesitant. I feel this deal may create a new trend and how brands will use music to create awareness. I guess they didn't like my idea because I was 21.

Congrats on the internship, if you are looking to do any business with the Chicago music industry... look me up.

Loved your post, E - it's like a phoenix rising out of the ashes of Bridget Gray's Letter to Hip Hop (http://jaysplayground.blogspot.com/2007/09/dear-hip-hop.html). Your enthusiasm and dedication is exactly what hip hop needs right now - keep encouraging him to be worthy of his listeners ;-) We've got your back...

Dr. Tantillo ('the marketing doctor') recently posted on this from a branding perspective, focusing more on the potential return for the corporations rather than the artists and positing that these partnerships with music could be a boon (Dupri for P&G/TAG) but also a potential liability, since sponsoring a celebrity (or growing one) essentially constitutes an investment in something/someone over which/whom they ultimately don't have much control: http://blog.marketingdoctor.tv/2008/07/10/brand-advisory.aspx
